Did you know that you there is still UV in winter?  That you need to wear sunglasses, even in winter?  Ultraviolet light levels are lower, in the winter months.  Though actual levels do fluctuate day to day.  Rendering the need to wear sunglasses, important all year round, for everyone in your family.

As the majority of UV damage to our eyes, happens before we are 18 years old. It is so important that children and babies start wearing sunglasses/protection against UV light, as soon as possible.  As this can prevent accumulated damage to their eyes and the resultant actinic damage.  Which includes cataracts, increased risk of macular degeneration and glaucoma.  It is even possible to get cancers in you eyes, yes, even melanomas.

So the wearing of sunglasses can have a long lasting impact regarding your eye health.  Sunglasses themselves, do not need to be expensive, so long as they meet Australian standards then you know that your eyes are safe.

I have chosen brands for their ability to withstand the normal wear and tear, that children can have on sunglasses.  Or they have straps to make it easier, for your to keep them on your baby or child’s head.

All of our products meet Australian standards and we even have some polarised lensed sunglasses.  Polarised lenses are perfect for children that are more bothered by glare or love fishing.  As they enable you to see into the water, by getting rid of reflected glare.

Something you might have noticed is that if you have blue or light coloured eyes you seem more glare sensitive than your brown eyed family members.  This is due to the fact that people with blue eyes have no pigment in their iris’s so more sunlight actually gets through their iris to hit their retina.  This is also true for children, so please be aware that if your child has blue or light coloured eyes they will be more affected by glare than their brown eyed siblings.
