Vision and hearing are precious gifts, gifts we can take for granted in our daily lives.  After I learned that up to 90% of eye injuries are preventable, I have to admit was shocked. Noise induced hearing loss can also be easily prevented.  I felt had to try and do something positive about the situation.  As an Optometrist my passion around sight was given an outlet, in this role I try to help my patients to see as well as they can in their lives and doing activities they enjoy.  Further to this I don’t believe I would be able to sleep easily at night, if I didn’t try to educate people to the dangers that their children’s sight and hearing are exposed to daily.  While also providing a solution in the form of quality eye and ear protection.

Children’s safety glasses was created, to aid in the prevention of preventable eye and ear injuries in kids. These eye injuries can occur playing sport, gardening, DIY, going to the beach or even just playing; with this in mind I started researching the different eye protection requirements for different activities and Children’s Safety Glasses website is the result.

I have two active children and I know that eye and ear protection has to be tough, flexible and colourful if your child is going to wear it.  I advocate the use of eye protection in high and medium risk sports, regardless of prescription requirements, wearing sunglasses, swimming goggles and safety glasses. I really hope that parents will make informed decisions regarding their child’s eye safety, as the results can be long lasting.

It is our mission is to protect sight and hearing in children, so they can enjoy them later in life.
