Sport – It is an absolute must for kids to participate in team sport.  It is brilliant for both learning to work as part of a team and also health and well being.  But there is something that you need to consider when playing a team sport, particularly one with sticks or balls.  Is your children’s vision safe?  Because the reality is that accidental eye damage while playing sport is not uncommon (20% of all accidental eye injuries).  Particularly in sports that require the use of sticks or balls.

Common injuries that include the eye and surrounding tissue, include being hit by a stick, ball, hand, finger or elbow.  This impacts can cause serious lasting damage to vision.  This damage is easily prevented by wearing eye protection suitable for the type of sport being played.

For example if you play squash then you need to wear eye protection that is the appropriate standard for this.  An example for Squash and other racquet ball sports in the iMask that can be worn over you own prescription glasses.

My kids play soccer and netball, for these sports I have got them the Progear sports goggle and the Centrostyle sports goggle.  Neither have a prescription in the distance.  But I value my ability to enjoy the world through clear vision and I wish to protect theirs into the future.  So I just use the off the shelf frame and haven’t updated the lenses as they come standard with 3mm thick safety lens material lenses.

We have loads of options regarding sizing and colours and the proper eye guard even has a dust gasket that can be purchased separately and attached.
